In the beginning...

One week. One whole week has officially come and gone since I was laid off from work. So, now I am on a journey hoping I can figure out what my next step in life will be a' la Eat Pray Love. When at rock bottom you can only look up, correct?

Last night before bed I was rereading one of my favorite books by the incomparable Kresley Cole. In her book, "Kiss of a Demon King" the super hot demon Rydstrom is seriously hurting after having his lungs bashed in. Sabine, one bad ass sorceress (probably my favorite character everrr) tells him,
"Now sleep, demon. And dream. Dream of what you need most."
As I laid in bed this sentence kept repeating in my mind, "Dream of what you need most." At 4:30am when all of life is still asleep, I have a thought, "Why not start a blog?" I can't be the only whose gotten laid off recently and feels like ass? Why not try writing how my journey goes in finding happiness? I'd like to order a plate of passion for life, with a side order of a fulfilling occupation, and for dessert I will take more laughter. Crazy thought right, I know.

So, here are my steps to figuring shit out:

1- Stop CRYING or at least minimize the time i'm allowing myself to cry. This seems to be getting easier as time progresses.

2- Exercise. Well at least go out for a walk when i'm feeling particularly sad. Every time I take a step I'm absolutely free to think, recollect, or just focus on music. There is something in the physical activity of walking that helps in purging the soul of negativity. It's almost as if you can sweat out all of the bad thoughts. It's probably the cheapest form of therapy ;)

3- Sit still for a couple of minutes and listen to the breeze, birds, and insects. Mother nature can soothe the mind with her whispers like no other.

4- Create a list in which you write the things you want for yourself. I'm not talking materialistic things either. I mean things that will shape you into a better person living a more fulfilled life.

This is by no means going to be easy and I make no guarantees my posts will always be on a positive note; but I do hope that after the reforging in the fire the blade will come out right this time.
